Scottish Gossip: McTominay, Ferguson, Barron, Reedijk, Vignal, Clearie

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has revealed that talks over a contract extension for Scott McTominay are ongoing. McTominay has two years left on his current deal, and Manna believes the 29-year-old Scotland midfielder wants to stay, despite reports of interest from Real Madrid.

Market value

At £34m, McTominay is the 35th most valuable British player in the latest market value update, and the top Scot. He sits one spot ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Scotland-qualified England youth defender, Archie Gray.

Barron’s game time

Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg has described Connor Barron as a “good player”. The 24-year-old midfielder is on loan from Rangers, and his lack of game time is down to the same situation facing many summer signings, who are only starting to break into Championship starting line-ups.

Ferguson linked with Glentoran

Former Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss Duncan Ferguson is among the leading candidates to become the next manager of Glentoran.

Scottish and European gossip

Beveren technical director Bob Peeters believes new Hibernian manager Marink Reedijk will bring success to Easter Road. Peeters points out that the 34-year-old enjoyed success with the Belgian club despite a disappointing first season there.

Former Rangers left-back Gregory Vignal, who has previously worked in the Ibrox club’s academy and with Dundee, wants to become a manager in his adopted home of Scotland. The 45-year-old recently left his role as Blackburn Rovers Under-21 boss.

Former Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has revealed that Neil Lennon tried to sign him for Celtic twice. Sharp cites his deep-rooted love for the Blades as the reason the move never happened.

Celtic B striker Lucas Clearie, aged 17, trained with the first team before the Scottish champions’ Europa League match against Benfica.
