Anthony Gordon scored his first Champions League goal for Barcelona as they came from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul, maintaining a perfect 10-for-10 start to the season.
Despite easing to a comfortable victory in the end, Hansi Flick‘s side had looked in serious trouble in Turkey. Aleksey Batrakov gave the home side a first-half lead, and they then had a second goal disallowed before the break after a protracted VAR check.
Cancelo levels before the break
That decision stirred Barcelona into life. On the stroke of halftime, Lamine Yamal lost possession, and the ball broke to João Cancelo, who levelled the score.
Second-half turnaround
The second half was a canter. Fermín López put the visitors into the lead five minutes after the restart. Gordon then continued his fine start to life in Catalonia by opening his European account on his first Champions League start, giving Barcelona breathing room.
Karim Adeyemi smashed the ball across goal and into the bottom corner in the 65th minute, effectively ending the contest.
Top of the table
The win sends the visitors top of the league-phase table with a perfect record and nine goals scored in their two matches. Flick’s rampant side has not lost all season, having also won all eight of its games in Spain’s top flight.
