Bayern teammates form guard of honour for Ballon d’Or winner Kane ahead of German Cup clash

Bayern Munich teammates gave Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane a guard of honour before Wednesday’s German Cup second-round match, a 6-1 win over second-division Magdeburg.

The 33-year-old striker waved to the home crowd at the Allianz Arena as he walked out. Kane stayed on the bench for the whole game.

Home fans are set to celebrate him again before Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund. The two sides are level on points at the top of the table.

A landmark award

Kane became the first English winner of the prize in 25 years. For Bayern, it marked their first Ballon d’Or winner in 45 years and the first for any player at a German club since 1996.

Kane scored 73 goals for club and country last season, when he was Europe’s top scorer. His six goals at the World Cup helped England to a third-place finish.

Kane is Bayern’s fourth Ballon d’Or winner. He joins German greats Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who won the award in 1981.
